6708 Milner Road

6708 Milner Road is a 3,172 square foot, 3 bedroom and 2.5 bathroom home that was also designed by famed MGM and Paramount Studios art and set director Harry McAfee (see previous post) in 1926. The house was built for Emily “Emma” Drakes Crawley, a single retired business owner who relocated from Kansas City to enjoy the retired life. Crawley had co-owned Central Boarding and Supply Company for twenty years. Not much is known about Crawley other than she enjoyed traveling overseas and sold the property in 1940 and moved back to Missouri. Below is a passport photo of Crawley.

The Spanish Revival home has been restored to its original charm and a outdoor pool and spa were added in 2003. Authentic character and original details include; decorative terracotta tiles, wood floors, wrought iron work, stained glass windows, antique fixtures, a dramatic 2-story beamed living room with fireplace, a library/den with corner fireplace and bar, circular dining room, original tiled kitchen & baths and main bedroom with a fireplace and balcony. 6708 Milner Road sits on the street above 2058 Watsonia Terrace (another property that McAfee designed). The Milner Road residence often gets confused as the home that Gloria Swanson and William Faulkner had rented due to its proximity and same architect. McAfee also built another home across the street at 2059 Watsonia Terrace in 1926. Below, 2058 Watsonia Terrace is located in the front. The street behind is Milner Road with 6717 Milner Road to the left and 6727 Milner Road to the right. 6708 Milner Road is directly behind those two residences.

Actor David J. Bowman lived at this residence between 1994-1995. Bowman, appeared in minor roles in ten tv productions between 1981-1984. He starred in: Dallas, Flamingo Road, Lou Grant, and Blue Thunder.
